In the meantime, German tenants and homeowners have put more than half a million balcony power plants into operation. This is according to figures from the Federal Network Agency - in the first half of 2024 alone, there were 152,000. Installation could soon become even easier for tenants.

The number of balcony power plants in Germany is growing faster and faster. In the second quarter, more than 152,000 of these devices were newly connected to the grid, according to the market master data register of the Federal Network Agency. This is a huge increase of 52 percent compared to the previous record holder, the second quarter of 2023.

In total, the market master data register currently lists a good 563,000 systems in operation. The real numbers are likely to be even higher, as there is a late registration period of several weeks and some plants are simply not registered.

And the so-called plug-in solar devices are to get another boost: The Bundestag wants to decide on Thursday evening that it will be easier for tenants and apartment owners to install a balcony power plant. Carsten Körnig, Managing Director of the German Solar Industry Association, sees this as a "booster for the solarization of balconies". He expects a further surge in demand.
